James "Barry" Trout June 27, 1926 - January 09, 2016 James Barry Trout, 89, died January 9, 2016. He was surrounded by his wife and family. Barry was born June 27, 1926, in Upper Darby, PA. While serving in the Navy during WWII, he attended Middlebury College and Cornell University. After being honorably discharged, Barry earned a degree in Chemical Engineering at University of PA, and was a member of Alpha Chi Sigma. Barry married Ruth Laura Peoples in 1949, a marriage that would last 66 years. After graduation in 1950, he began his professional career working for DuPont, The Electric Storage Battery Co, and the Navy Department, Bureau of Ships in Washington D.C. He also served as councilman and mayor of Vienna, VA. In 1965, Barry moved his family from the East Coast to Texas to work for NASA. Over the next few decades Barry served in the Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, Apollo Soyuz, Shuttle-Mir, and Space Shuttle programs. He retired in 1991. Barry's greatest passions were for his family and serving the Lord. He was actively involved in the Episcopal Church, and served as a lay minister at St. Nicholas Charismatic Center, leading Life in the Spirit seminars. He was an avid reader, enjoyed music and singing, playing various instruments, and loved fishing and the ocean. He was a man of great intelligence, integrity, wit and compassion. Barry is survived by his wife, Ruth; children Susan Trout Gilbert (Don), L. Cindey Trout Gill (Windell), Mary Trout Smith (Tommy), and Joe Trout; grandchildren Christopher Hayden Gilbert (Lisa), Jenny DeTrinis (Chris), Matthew Gilbert, Amber Hicks (James), Curtiss Gill, Tabitha Godinez (Carlos), A. Elizabeth Cornett, Tiffany Gill, Anna Cornett, Rebecca Bryant (Brady), Stephen Morgan and Zoe Trout; great-grandchildren Meredith Gilbert, Luke Gilbert, Megan Hicks, Alexis Hicks, Layla Godinez and Taylor Bryant. He was preceded in death by his sons Jerold and James Trout; grandchildren James Luke and Alexandra Cornett. The memorial service for James Barry Trout will be celebrated at 4:00pm on Saturday, January 16, 2016, at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 815 South Broadway, La Porte, TX 77571.
