Clyde “Doc” Edward Porter Jr., age 80 of Pearland, passed away on May 20, 2009. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clyde Edward Sr. & Allyne (Mobley) Porter; and sister, Peggy Pittman. He is survived by his wife, Oleta (Grogan) Porter; daughters, Susan King & her husband, David, and Cindy Tremont; sister, Patsy Hawkins & her husband Denny; grandson, Kyle King; and a host of many other family & friends.
Clyde “Doc” Porter was born on April 8, 1929 in New Augusta, Mississippi and resided in the Houston area since 1949. Doc was a Lineman/PBX Repairman for SouthWestern Bell until he retired in 1984. In 1996, he began volunteering at the Telephone Museum in the Heights. His work and dedication there was so strong that in 2006, it was renamed the Doc Porter Museum of Telephone History. In his spare time, Doc loved woodworking and fishing. He and Oleta were proud members of the Telecom Pioneers and each year, when they could, attended the Signal Corp. reunions. Doc’s fond memory will always be remembered in the hearts of all those who knew and loved him.
The family will be receiving friends on Friday, May 22, 2009 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 9:00 am at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77038.
