Obituary of Willie Walker

Willie "Jimbo" Walker December 05, 1927 - December 06, 2013 12At the dawn of a new day on December 6th, 2013, God added another soldier to the Army of the Lord. Willie David Walker “Jimbo”, son of the late Arthur and Minnie Ola Walker was born on December 5th, 1927, in Athens Louisiana. In 1945 the family moved to La Porte, Texas. At the age of 19 Willie Walker joined the U.S. Army and served until he was honorably discharged. He was united in marriage to Ruby Walker on January 15th, 1955 for 43 years until her death in 1997. He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He has been a faithful member of Zion Hill M.B.C. and Praise Center for many years. He was a pillar of the community where he served on the City Board of Adjustments, the La Porte Civic Club, and on the Board of the Twilight Cemetery. He also helped the mayor with the North side clean up and was instrumental in getting the youth involved. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge where he served as Treasurer for many years. He loved fishing, helping others, working outdoors, and carpentry work where he spent many hours overseeing the construction of the Praise Center. But most of all, he enjoyed cooking good food and sharing it. He is preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters Ethel (Top) Bibbs, Trudy Wally, and Blanche Halls, and three brothers Charles, Clinton, and Douglas Walker. He leaves to cherish his memories Two brothers Arthur Walker, JR., Milton Walker, sister Betty Gibson, four children Sharon Montgomery and husband Herman, Ruby Walker, Tara Carr and husband Charles, Carl Walker, god-daughter Cindy Lou, ten grandchildren three great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends. Visitation will be Thursday December 12th, 2013 from 6:00PM to 9:00PM at Paul U. Lee Funeral Home in La Porte. Services will be held at the Zion Hill Missionary Baptist Church on Friday December 13th, 2013 at 11:00AM.
