Agnes "Topsy" Wright September 29, 1928 - September 04, 2008 Agnes Florine “Topsy” Wright passed away Thursday, September 4, 2008 at San Jacinto Methodist Hospital in Baytown after being diagnosed with cancer only 3 weeks before. She would have turned 80 years old on her birthday, September 29. “Topsy” as she was always known, was born in Pennington, Texas. She married Oscar T. Wright in 1948 moved to La Porte, where she spent the rest of her years on Sylvan Beach until moving to Glen Meadows a few years ago. In her early years in La Porte, she worked at what were then some of La Porte’s old landmarks like the Sylvan Beach Grocery, Westergren’s Youth Shop, and Ben Franklin’s on old Main Street. Topsy was a loving and involved mother to her only child, Sandra, never missing a piano lesson or recital, or a football game seeing her march with the LPHS Band. Some of her happiest years of her life were the 16 years she cared for Camille Felgner as she was growing up. She loved and nurtured her like a child of her own. Mrs. Wright and her husband and daughter were long time members of the Broadway Church of Christ in La Porte before moving her membership to Southside Church of Christ in Pasadena. Mrs. Wright was preceded in death by her husband, Oscar, her parents Rayburn and Jessie Dial, 2 sisters Billie and Dora, and 1 brother Martin Dial. She is survived by her only daughter Sandra Haygood and husband Wilbert of the Baytown-Dayton area, very special nephew Russel Richerson and his family Susan, Cassie, Derek, Aiden, and McKenzy, Justin and Jason Paduh all of La Porte, a special niece Jennifer Liotta and her family of Crockett, step granddaughters Becky Powers and Joe, Laura Garza, step-grandson Devon, step great granddaughter Tayra, Amanda, Ashley, Lauren, special neighbors Kathleen and Ralph Hansen, numerous other nieces and nephews and lastly her 2 loving dachies Val and Candy. Services will be held Saturday September 6, 2008 at 1 PM at Paul U. Lee La Porte Funeral Home Chapel with internment following Grandview Memorial Park in Pasadena.
