Obituary of Barbara Jean Smith

Barbara Jean Smith, 88, of La Porte, Texas, passed away on September 23, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents, Leilar “Jack” Tullus and John M. Warren; husband, Joe Bailey Smith; granddaughter, Michaila Ashley Smith; and brother, Howard Warren. Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Joe Smith and wife, Marci, Gary Smith and wife, Janet, Rusty Smith and wife, D’Andra; grandchildren, Tiffany Walker, Brandon Smith, Mariah Smith; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Barbara loved the Lord and devoted her life telling others about Jesus. She served as a Sunday School Teacher, a bookkeeper, and was always there to help with Vacation Bible School because of her love for children. Barbara married her high school sweetheart, Joe, in 1951, and they continued to share their life and love with each other until his passing in 2017. They were very active in the La Porte Livestock Association and supported the FFA, 4-H Club, and youth of La Porte for over 50 years. More than anything Barbara loved and cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.    

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Monument Baptist Church, Golden Years, In Memory of Barbara, 3602 East Blvd., Deer Park, Texas 77536.

A visitation and funeral service for Barbara will take place on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Clayton Funeral Home La Porte, 201 South 3^rd Street, La Porte, Texas 77571. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and continue until service time at 11:00 am, with Pastor Mike McMahon officiating. Interment will take place at Rusk County Memorial Gardens, on a later date.
