Obituary of Donna Mae Matthews

The beloved Donna Mae Matthews went home to the arms of Lord in her Pearland home on October 18, 2018 at age 87.  Donna placed family above all.  Her memory is cherished by her son and his wife, William and Donna Green; and her daughters and their husbands, Janis and Colin McLeod and Karen and John Schauer.  She was a loving grandmother to Melissa, Courtney, Ian, Camille, Paul, and Karl.  Donna loved being “GG” to her great grandchildren: Matias, Hannah, Zachary, Brandon and Brittany.  Donna’s beloved husband, Bill Matthews, and her first husband, the father of her children, Wilbert “Bill” Green, and her sister Dollie Anderson joined the church triumphant before Donna.

Donna was born to Lola Ayres and Ervin Yates in Saginaw, Michigan on July 28, 1931.  She lived in Michigan, Ohio, Illinois, Arkansas and Florida, but Houston and Pearland were home for over 40 years. Donna was always elegant, well-dressed, and accessorized to highlight her brilliant blue eyes.  She loved social occasions in her Country Place community, dancing, playing bridge and Mahjong.  She was gifted at playing the organ.  Family members enjoyed musical birthday call serenades from Donna’s keyboard.  She was a woman of strong faith, volunteering in her church community, and visiting and bringing meals to those confined to their homes.

Donna’s memorial service will be held at First United Methodist Church in Pearland on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 10:30 a.m.  The Reverend Dr. Keith Whitaker will conduct the service.  In lieu of flowers, friends and family may wish to contribute in her memory to the First United Methodist Church Pearland at 2314 N Grand Blvd., Pearland, Texas 77581.
