Obituary of Barbara Nell Howard

Barbara Nell Howard, 94, passed away Wednesday, October 31, 2018.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul Silas and Mary Lena Harrington; her loving husband of 62 years, Coleman Howard; brothers, Paul Larry Harrington, Ira Hugh Harrington; sister, Mary “Katie” Criswell.  Left to cherish her memory are her son, Paul C. Howard and girlfriend, Gay Carter; daughter, Barbara Ann Hurt and husband, Clint; sisters-in-law, Peggy Harrington and Barbara Harrington; and a host of other family and dear friends.

Barbara was born to Paul Silas and Mary Lena (Smith) Harrington on November 16, 1923 in Throckmorton, Texas as the second of four children.  She graduated form North Texas State Teachers College with a Bachelor Degree in Home Economics. Later she also earned a Master Degree in Special Education.  Education was extremely important to Barbara, who worked for many years as a teacher with La Porte ISD.  She was active in her community and a loyal member of the Order of Eastern Star.  Barbara was strong in her faith and a longtime member of Bayshore Baptist Church in La Porte where she worked in the church library.  In recent years she had been a faithful member of Monument Baptist Church in Deer Park.  Barbara took great pleasure in being outdoors gardening and sharing her vegetable garden with friends and family.  She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services for Barbara will be held Monday, November 5, 2018 at Monument Baptist Church, 3602 East Boulevard, Deer Park, Texas 77536.  The visitation will be held from 10:30 until 11:30 am with the funeral service beginning at 11:30 am with Pastor Mike McMahon officiating.  Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena, Texas.
