Obituary of Victoria Ybarra Garza
Victoria “Vickie” Ybarra Garza, 83, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018. She is preceded in death by her parents, Manuel and Leonora Ybarra Sr.; her first husband, Charles M. Torres; son, Charlie Torres; and sister, Lucy Ramirez. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 51 years, Miguel Garza Jr.; sons, Ricky Torres, Alex Torres and wife, Joanie, Stevie Torres, Alan Torres, Chris Torres and wife, Laura, Michael Garza and wife, Alanna; daughters, Sandra Soliz and husband, Johnny, Sonia Buckelew and husband, Steve, Cindy Gross and husband, Pat, Theresa Diaz; brother, Manuel Ybarra Jr. and wife, Maria; sisters, Beva Villarreal and husband, Jesse, Mamie Garcia, Nora Flores and husband, Henry; twenty seven grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren, and a host of other family and dear friends.
Vickie was a loving and caring wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who cherished the joy and laughter of family when everyone was together. She was strong in her Catholic faith and devoted to Jesus Christ and the Virgin Mary. Vickie was an active member at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Manvel and took great pride in sharing her faith with family and friends. Her faith was never more evident than in her prayers for those in need or in her kindness and generosity to strangers. Vickie enjoyed taking writing classes where she could share her favorite short stories about her family experiences. She loved watching her beloved Houston Astros and cheering on their World Series championship. Vickie enjoyed working as an attendance clerk and a teacher’s aide for the Alvin school district so that she could always be around kids. She had a wonderful sense of humor and will forever be remembered for inspiring everyone around her with her courage and faithfulness throughout her illness. Vickie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Due to restrictions at the National Cemetery of only allowing three floral arrangements, the family strongly requests that donations be made in Vickie’s honor to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church for the new tabernacle. Please make donations to Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 6502 County Road 48, Manvel, Texas 77578 with a note in the memo line of checks for the tabernacle.
Services for Vickie will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 6502 County Road 48, Manvel, Texas 77578. The visitation will be held Thursday, November 8, 2018 from 5:00 until 8:00 pm with a Vigil and Rosary recited at 7:00 pm. Funeral services will take place Friday, November 9, 2018 at 1:00 pm with Father Tom Ponzini officiating. A private family interment will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2018 at Houston National Cemetery.
