Obituary of Jessie Mae Burrell
Jessie Mae Bostick Burrell affectionately known to her family and friends as “Jessie” was the third eldest of five children born to the union of Willie Bostick Sr., and Annie Mae Covington on September 18, 1927 in Ellerbe, North Carolina.
Jessie was united in Holy Matrimony to Montrust Quinto Burrell, Jr., on July 10, 1954. To this union was born two sons, Carlton Richard Burrell, Sr., and Earl Vance Burrell. She and Quinto were married more than sixty-one (61) years before his demise on September 6, 2015, at the Wingsong Village Convalescent Center in Pearland, Texas. Jessie released her Spirit from this earth to unite with heavenly destinations on December 3, 2018.
Jessie was a graduate of Rockingham High School Class of 1947 in North Carolina. She later attended Fayetteville State Teacher College in North Carolina and earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Education on June 5, 1951.
Jessie was a highly respected educator in the East Baton Rouge Parish School system teaching elementary school students from 1967 through 1985. She was a member in good standing of the First Presbyterian Church of Scotlandville, served as Treasurer for the ‘Women’s Church Circle’, and was also a member of the Church Choir. In her spare time, she was an avid weekly league bowler, enjoyed home cooking, gardening and performing charity projects for those who were less fortunate in the community.
Jessie was preceded in death by her husband (Montrust Quinto Burrell, Jr.), parents (Willie Bostic, Sr., and Annie Mae Covington), and three siblings (Willie Bostic, Jr., Beatrice Mason and Sue Morley). She leaves to cherish her memory two siblings (Dorothy Hurd and Earl Gene Bostick); devoted sons Carlton Burrell (Lovie) of Pearland, Texas and Earl Burrell (Nella) of Pago Bay, Guam; her grandchildren, RoShaun Holt (Carlton), Carlton Richard Burrell, Jr., Omar Burrell (Shauncyni), Corlis Andrews (Timothy), Christopher Burrell, Jovon Burrell and Sean Burrell; four great grandchildren, C’Nya Holt, Tristan Andrews, Tatum Andrews and Andrew Burrell. She will also be deeply missed by many nieces, nephews, numerous extended family members and friends.
Services for Jessie will be held Friday, December 14, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church of Scotlandville, 1246 Rosenwald Rd., Baton Rouge, LA 70807. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am and the funeral service will follow at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Southern Memorial Gardens in Baton Rouge.
