Joanne: I am so sorry for your loss. I just learned of Ron's passing. You may remember I coached with Ron at AMS in the late 80's, and my wife taught at Kerr for a year or two with Ron. He was a special person. I liked him very much, and the kids all loved him. My sympathy goes out to you.

Everything in the obituary is true. He made everyone he came in contact with feel special and important. I was with him every morning for a year & loved every single minute with him. He always made me laugh & was the most down to earth person. You will be truly missed, Coach Dickey!!

I attended Alief Middle School from 1990-1993 and remember Coach Dickey well. He was one of the few educators that left a lasting impression. I am saddened to read that he has left us. Many prayers to his family and friends as you heal during this time.

This news saddens me deeply. Coach Dickey is someone who continues to pop up in my mind to this day, periodically and for no particular reason other than to remember his kindness fondly. I remember very vividly being in Health class when I was a freshman and dealing with some hard feelings. I started to cry and decided to crawl under the table to hide, because I was embarrassed. Instead of getting upset with me for crawling under the table in the middle of class he crawled under the table with me and comforted me. His kindness that day and every day until I graduated will never be forgotten. I send love and condolences to his family. Your person made a huge impact in my life and I’m sure many others. I am a better person for knowing him and I hope that can provide just a sliver of comfort at this time. Love and blessings to you all.

I attended AMS ( Alice Middle School) I had Coach Dickey, a very memorable coach he was my favorite. He always built me up ... saying I complained a lot which I did ( still do) I now catch myself and think about how he always told me to be grateful and stop complaining.
He will be missed. My deepest condolences to his wife & family.

Coach Dickey was a great man. Even decades later, I'll never forget how he encouraged me to take my rightful place in a basketball game when the boys tried to crowd me out. Teaching wasn't just a job to him. He genuinely cared about us students and I'll always remember him for that. I'm so sorry for his loss. Thoughts and prayers are with his family.

Coach Dickey was with me throughout my years in Kerr High School. He was a massive inspiration to me, my future and a huge influence in the man I was to be. Always caring, appreciative, and understanding, there was never a dull moment with him around. His talent was to bring inspiration to the uninspired, even if it was a small gesture like a smile. A smile at the right moment can change the tide of the day, week and month. I always looked forward to seeing his big smile; it was contagious and will forever embedded in my minds eye every time I think of him. Condolences to his family and close friends, he will be truly missed.

Coach Dickey was a great man, I was fortunate enough to have him as a coach back at Kerr in the 90s. He was a true role model and allowed many of us to grow in a positive direction in our troubled years. I am saddened by his passing. His spirit will live on in all of us who were fortunate enough to know him.

To his beloved wife, beautiful daughter and family,
Coach Dickey was my high school teacher and advisor. He was more to me than that. He was an inspiration. He was not only a great coach, but one of my mentors. I have the fondest of memories of him.
I will miss him. Last year he reached out to me to check on me, and I was not aware of his health conditions. I offer up my condolences to you his family. I will keep y'all in my prayers and know he's in heaven looking fondly at y'all.
May God bless you and continue to bless you and may the holy spirit give y'all comfort.
I love you Coach Dickey and you hold a special place in my heart and will not be forgotten.

Coach Dickey was such an inspiration!
I just want his family to know what an impact he made on a short unathletic girl who was new to the school. At 4'nothing, I pretty much failed at most PE tasks. Coach Dickey pushed me to believe that I could and I remember him fondly.
He made me keep trying pull ups (he spent HOURS with me, with a box, boosting me up, steps, trying to help me learn to do one without any help) until I got one done.
He said small could be fast and had me try my speed runs until I had one of the best times in my group (a race where you run laps increasingly faster until you're sprinting). In fact, in high school, I made the super competitive track team!
As a human being, he cared about my self confidence, about me not giving up just because others were better, about knowing I was just as important a member of the team as the kids who were naturally great at sports.
Sending my condolences and hoping you are comforted that his legacy will not be forgotten!

I knew him when he taught at Kerr, he was my coach.. His loving and kind approach to students was always admirable. He was devoted to teaching with charisma and always set the standards high for himself and others. I never forgot him, because he was so unique as a teacher. The world lost a wonderful person, but the heaven's gained a beautiful soul...

I had Coach Dickey as my Coach in middle school. He was a warm and kind soul. Jet was always going on about how he was a size 9 when someone showed up with new shoes. I was very soft spoken and shy, he would tell me to "use my diaphragmatic, and speak up" so i could be heard. Now, I catch myself telling the children I mentor to do the same.
Even though I haven't seen him in a lifetime, I will miss him dearly. After all, he taught us to play football, and fueled my passion for the game.
Rest In Peace Coach.

I am so sorry for your loss. I worked with Ron at Kerr High School where we all worked as a team to open that new school. I don't think I ever saw him without a smile no matter how difficult the days were with the newness of the school and concept we implemented. He was a role model for his peers and his students. He will be missed.

Ron was a great PE teacher. Everyone loved him, and it was a sad day at Kerr when he decided to leave. One year he even won the "Best Legs Contest"--he honestly had the best legs of all the males at school. :-)
Kerr High School is celebrating 25 years this April, and I am sure there will be many older alumni who will have fond memories of Ron.
