Obituary of Frank Melchor, Sr.

Branlio Frank Melchor, Sr., 84, of Pearland, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 23, 2018. He is preceded in death by his parents, Carmen Rodriguez and Catarino Melchor, wife, Mary Cruz Melchor, and sister, Mary Louis Galvan. Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Patty Lyerly, Barbara Schankel and husband, Jim, Jackie Melchor; son, Frank Melchor Jr.; sisters, Sarah Hernandez and husband, Tony, Leonora Corona and her husband, Manuel; grandchildren, Chris Lyerly, Vanessa Melchor, Danielle Bateman and husband, Chris, Andrew Melchor, Austin Schankel; his beloved dog Bailey and a host of other family and dear friends.

Frank was born in Waelder, Texas on March 26, 1934, and grew up in Galveston. He played trumpet for the Ball High School band which ultimately led him to meet the love of his life, Mary, who played clarinet for the Texas City High School band. Frank was a Golden Gloves Boxing champion and worked at the Balinese Room while living in Galveston. Later in life, he moved his family to Houston, where he worked at the Shamrock Hilton, the Cork Club, and the Petroleum Club. Frank was an avid golfer, golfing at least three times a week at the age of 84. He enjoyed gardening and traveling whenever he got the chance. Dedicated to helping others, Frank valued volunteer activities throughout his life and never turned anyone in need away. He was an usher at St. Helen Catholic Church and an active member of the Knights of Columbus 4^th Degree for over 40 years. The charity, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, had an extremely special place in Frank’s heart and he volunteered in their food pantry for many years. He treasured the life-long friendships he had and cherished the new friendships he made. He loved spending time visiting with relatives and friends, whether it be in times of need or joy. He adored his family and his dog, Bailey, taking walks with her as often as possible. Frank was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation for Frank will take place at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581, on Thursday, December 27, 2018, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm, with a rosary beginning at 6:30 pm. The Funeral Mass will be held at St. Helen Catholic Church, 2209 Old Alvin Road, Pearland, Texas 77581, on Friday, December 28, 2018, at 1:30 pm, with Father Jim Courville officiating. Interment will follow at South Park Resurrection Cemetery, 1310 N. Main St, Pearland, Texas.
