Dear Capella, you've always been a bright, shining star to light up a room, and now you get to light up the entire sky. You will be missed here on earth, and will always be with those who love you in our hearts and minds. You were one of the kindest people in our class, and I will always remember you for it and your quiet, powerful presence. You continue to inspire me to this day to do the best work possible. I was lucky enough to work alongside Capella in 2015/2016 and I had a wonderful experience as her assistant. Her passion for public media and community shined through her projects and highlighted her work. I know she was so proud of her daughter and we talked of her artwork often. Capella was unique and lovely to have known. She will be missed.

I was so saddened to learn of Capella's passing. She was a student of mine -- an outstanding one, to no surprise -- and one of my advisees at the University of Maine. She was well liked and respected by her classmates and by the faculty. It was no surprise to any of us in the journalism department that she would achieve prominence and success. It was always a thrill to be listening to NPR in Maine and hear her reports from Texas. To her family and friends, please accept my deepest condolences.

So devastating to learn that Capella Tucker is no longer with us! I had no idea she was ill. What a brave soul! Her talent, sensitivity, brilliance and insight as a journalist made listening to NPR Houston such a pleasure. She was a foot soldier for good journalism from the trenches to the decision-making editorial role she attained. I always took her solid, steady work for granted. Never knew her or met her but felt I knew her through my dashboard. Crazy. But, I am in tears thinking she is gone. How much her family must be hurting. Prayers for your heartache. Be proud of your mother/wife/daughter. I thank God for Capella Tucker. A phenomenal woman!

Capella was an institution at Houston Public Media. Capella poured her heart into everything she did - reporting, exploring the great outdoors and quality time with her family. What I remember most about Capella was her many secret talents and traits. She played music, she loved hiking and camping, and so much more. She will be dearly missed.

So many memories come rushing in: creative thinker and open to new ideas, thinking out of the box re Houston Matters and the first " road trips" to broadcast live and develop loyal audiences and donors, always willing to talk to our donors - especially at the Spelling Bee or after Downton Abbey, and then of course, her pure joy and smiles at going on vacation to the National Parks and pride in Natilia's artwork. Her smile was a pure beam of light and joy! God bless you Capella - you made Houston a much better place.

Before I knew Capella, I counted on her and was connected to her as a listener of KUHF. I appreciated the journalistic standards she exemplified and her dedication to the mission of public broadcasting. During my time working with her, those qualities were consistently confirmed. The other thing I came to know about Capella - she loved her family.

What a loss. It has been such an honor to have known Capella. I owe her so much for her support and many kindnesses during her 25 years at KUHF. For that matter, the city of Houston is the better for her solid honest journalism. And we're all the better for having known her.

Capella was our daughter-in-law who was a gentle soul who enjoyed growing marigolds from seeds, was a classical pianist, a devoted wife to our son Patrick and most of all a wonderful mother to Natalya.
During the difficulties her illness imposed on her Capella never complained and still managed to laugh and give us thumbs up when her speech became impaired.
She is leaving a great void in our lives. She will never be forgotten.
It is with a heavy heart to say good bye to Capella but her spirit will shine in our
hearts forever.

There are so many little moments that you remember about a colleague you’ve known for nearly 20 years. Those moments don’t seem significant along the way, but they add up to a friendship over the years. Like the time Capella told me she couldn’t figure out what to do with her new crock pot and how to use it to make meals for her family. I didn’t have a clue about crock pot cooking either, but a day or two later I bought her a cookbook with slow cooker recipes. That led to her sharing some of her favorite baking recipes with me, and I still pull out her famous Brownie Cookies when I need a good crowd-pleaser.
I will miss Capella's big laugh, her passion for baseball, her dedication to journalism, and the joy and enthusiasm she brought to all her efforts.

When I came down to interview for a position with KUHF, Capella was one of two people who interviewed me. At the end of the interview, she asked whether I had any questions for her. I asked, "What does a good day at KUHF look like, and what does a bad day look like?" Without missing a beat, Capella described what it had been like working through Hurricane Ike -- an all-hands-on-deck situation that showed the best and the worst of days, both for the station and for Houston. Capella offered me the chance to live out my dream of becoming a public radio reporter, and for that I will always be grateful. May her memory be for a blessing.
