Obituary of Scott Thomas Naughton
Scott Thomas Naughton, 64, of Houston TX died suddenly on July 11, 2019. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Naughton. Scott is survived by his mother Franziska Naughton, three brothers, Jeffrey Naughton and wife, Jane, Barry Naughton, Michael and wife, Odette and a number of family members and dear friends.
Scott was born in London, England where his father worked as an expatriate engineer for four years. He grew up in Park Forest, IL and graduated from Rich East High School there. Scott discovered his lifetime passion for diving in high school and attended diving school in Oakland, CA. Shortly thereafter, Scott moved to Morgan City, Louisiana where he began a professional diving career. He worked for a number of years as a diver, then moved into management positions at J&J Marine Services and Cal Dive. At Cal Dive, Scott was instrumental in the move from surface to deep water diving and into high technology diving services, including dynamically positioned vessels. When Cal Dive became Helix, Scott became Chief Operating Officer of a new diving-focused Cal Dive subsidiary. The new Cal Dive then became a NYSE-listed independent public company.
In the later years of his life, Scott focused on family and friends. He was very generous with both his time and money. He assisted numerous friends who battled health problems. Scott helped move his mother to California in 2001, and after retirement began spending a significant amount of time there, dividing his time between Houston, TX and Encinitas, CA. A pillar of support for everyone, Scott also helped with little things, performing driving duties to get the children of family and friends to school and soccer practice. While helping others, Scott still enjoyed his life while traveling the country and enjoying food and beverage with friend and strangers alike. We all remember Scott's energy and upbeat spirit. Scott is dearly missed.
A Memorial Service for Scott will be held Saturday, July 20, 2019 at 3:00 pm at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581 with Reverend Steve Torgerson officiating.
