Obituary of Charles David Young Jr.
Charles David Young Jr., 100, passed away Sunday, September 1, 2019. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Grace Young Sr.; his first wife, Jean E. Young; and brothers, Howard and Sherrill Braden. Left to cherish his memory is Charles & Jean’s son, Richard Louis Young, grandson Richard Wayne Jordan, great grandchildren, Colt, Tate, Cade, Lordele and Judy Jordan; his loving wife, Margaret Young; her son, Michael and wife; Deborah and a host of other family and friends.
Charles proudly served his country in the US Army Air Corps during World War II. Growing up in Galveston, he loved being on the water in his sailboat or cruising with his family. He was quick witted, funny and loved to keep others entertained with his jokes. When asked how he managed to live so long, his most common answer was, “I guess I forgot to die.” Charles enjoyed reminiscing about the past 100 years he had been alive and shared countless stories about his life, the war, the great depression, how many presidents he had been through and all the changes he had seen. He was truly a walking history book. Charles loved his family and cherished spending time with them. He and Margaret loved to dance. Charles will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Special thanks to Steve and Dana Sexton for their visits, love and support during the years we knew and had him in our life.
The family would also like to extend a special thank you to the hospital doctors and staff that took such loving care of him during his stay. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Charles’ honor to either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or to the Samaritans Purse.
Services for Charles will be held Saturday, September 7, 2019 at Clayton Funeral Home, 201 South 3rd Street, La Porte, Texas 77571. The visitation will begin at 12:00 Noon and the funeral service will follow beginning at 1:00 pm with Pastor Gary Morgan-Gohlke officiating.
