Obituary of Saundra Erma Spencer
Saundra Erma Spencer was born on December 11, 1948 to King Jeff Edwards and Addie Lou Roland in Port Arthur, Texas. She first found Christ in her earlier age while attending Pleasant Mount Gilead Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Texas. She attended Como High School in Fort Worth, Texas where she was a cheerleader, trumpeter in the band, president of several organizations and voted Miss Como. After graduating, a year early, she returned to her second home in Port Arthur, Texas where she studied Pre-Law at Port Arthur College known currently as Lamar University.
After working in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, she accepted a position with Positive Education for Early Parenting (P.E.E.P) in Orange, Texas. Her work with P.E.E.P benefited many parents and young children throughout Orange County. She was a pioneer in working to support families in home by visiting with and educating parents about helping their children. She also trained and supervised AmeriCorps volunteers in an expansion of P.E.E.P’s mission to support at risk parents to prevent child abuse and neglect. She continued this work until P.E.E.P merged with Family Services of Beaumont.
She leaves to celebrate her memory her beloved husband of 44 years, Cornelius Joseph Spencer Jr. (They met at wedding 46 years ago where he was the best man and she was the maid of honor). She also leaves to celebrate her memory her children Adrienne Tivonne, Cornelius Spencer III ( Shani), Brian Spencer, Brandy Spencer Byrd (Derrick), her stepmother, Margaret Edwards, and her siblings Cheryl Edwards- Harkless (Alvin), and Ray Charles Jenkins (Sonya), her grandchildren Acaseia Apacanis, Brian Deslin Spencer, Ale’Ja Thomas, Evan Fielder, Kingston Spencer, Cornelius Spencer IV, Blake Spencer, and Derrick Byrd Jr. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wealth of friends.
