Obituary of Daniel David Kainer

Please share a memory of Daniel to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Daniel (Dan) David Kainer, Sr., 83, of Pearland passed away peacefully on November 20, 2019. He was born at home on November 14, 1936 to his parents, Anton and Anna Kainer in Schulenburg, Texas (High Hill) and was one of seven siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Wilfred Kainer and brother-in-law, Lyttleton Fritsch.

Dan is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Helen Chunda Kainer; son, Daniel David Kainer, Jr., D. V. M. and wife, Cheryl; daughter, Denise Hanslik and husband, Kenneth; brother, Hubert Kainer and wife, Helen; sisters, Sister Beatrice Ann Kainer, Harriet Bohac and husband, John, Delores Fritsch and Gloria Ann Cernosek and husband, Clem; grandchildren, Lydia Lemoine, Kendra Hanslik and Keith Hanslik; life-long friends, The Nelson Family as well as a host of many other nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Dan was an Eagle Scout who moved to Houston in 1955 and began his career with Houston Lighting and Power Company. Dan and Helen met on a blind date in 1960 and were married in Shiner, TX on July 1, 1961.

He was an excellent self-taught musician. Daniel could play the accordion and an acoustic guitar. He also had a beautiful voice with the gift of harmonizing. Dan loved the outdoors, fishing, gardening and was very meticulous at weeding his yard with a butcher knife. No weeds left behind!

Dan and his family made many happy and beautiful memories vacationing with close family friends, The Nelsons. He loved classic country music. On Saturday nights, Dad ruled the TV as long as the Grand Ole Opry and Hee Haw were airing. When the Dolly Parton movie came out about the Chicken Ranch in LaGrange, TX, he swore he never went there.

Dan also enjoyed a good game of dominoes, a fresh can of Skoal and had a unique style of waltzing and two-stepping. He was steadfast, humble, kind-hearted, good at giving orders and could fix just about anything he put his hands on. Dan loved his sweets, Whataburger, IHOP and Astros Baseball. He was so thrifty that he drove his 1963 Chevrolet Pickup from the beginning of his marriage to Helen till he retired in 1992 from HL&P after 37 years of service.

Dan was a loyal Knights of Columbus member, very devout member of St. Helen’s Catholic Church in Pearland and a dedicated family man who adored and loved his wife, children and grandchildren.

He will be deeply missed by all, but his memory will live on in our lives forever. He was a true Angel and he was a rare find.
