Obituary of Michael Ransom Hazen

Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Ransom Hazen, 71 of Taylor Lake Village, TX, went to be with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on December 16, 2019 at home after a brief struggle with cancer. Mike was born at Weaver AFB, SD to Chester Hugh and Elizabeth Sybil Hazen. A polio survivor, Mike spent 6 months in an iron lung, and had to re-learn how to walk after his illness. He earned his Aeronautical Engineering degree from University of Missouri, Rolla and his graduate degree from Princeton University. Mike proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was Honor graduate of their Computer Sciences School, Quantico, VA. His career spanned 50 years, starting as a co-op student at NASA Langley Research Center, working directly with astronaut training. He had extensive military simulator expertise with both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Towards the end of his career, he worked as a Chief Systems Engineer, and Project Manager, working with his NASA counterparts on a wide variety of space related projects. He always strived for excellence, giving his “customer” the very best product, meeting often grueling requirements and deadlines. A humble man, Mike never spoke much about his own achievements, but never forgot the people that worked with him, always making sure they were recognized for their achievements, submitting them for awards and recognition and poring over their performance reviews to make sure that happened. Mike’s greatest love was his family, and he was always there for them, and they were his priority in life. He was passionate about serving the Lord. “Mr. Mike” as many called him, served in Children’s Ministry for many years, and was known for his use of puppets, balloons and object lessons to teach kids (and adults) about Jesus and Bible truths. Mike always greeted everyone he met with a smile and his complete attention. He made them feel important and welcome, no matter who they were. He is pre-deceased by his parents. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen, son Joseph Hunter (Sabrina), daughter Emmalie Ruifang, granddaughter Charlotte Marie; brothers Charles David (Nancy) and Steven Douglas; nephews Chris, and Eric (Tabitha) and their children Katherine, Connor, Eli and Ethen. Mike’s favorite Scripture is: Joshua 1:9 “have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go” He lived this out. We will miss you terribly Mike. “His Lord said to him, Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your Lord.” Matthew 25:23
