John W. Lutteringer Jr. passed away with his family present on August 23, 2019 in Houston, Texas. He was 85, born July 27, 1934. John grew up in San Antonio, TX and graduated from Central High School in 1950. He attended St Mary’s University for two years before transferring to Texas A&M University, graduating in 1954 as a member of the corps of cadets with a mechanical engineering degree. After graduation he went to work for General Electric and as a new hire spent the first 18 months working for 9 months in Cincinnati Ohio and then Fort Wayne Indiana. It was in Fort Wayne that he met his beloved Dorothy Connor and they were married on January 5, 1957 after he finished serving his military commitment, an 18-month tour in South Korea as a captain in the United States Army. He and Dorothy moved for a time to San Antonio, TX, before moving back to Fort Wayne in 1964. They lived in Fort Wayne until 1981 and moved to the Houston area before retiring in 1993 to Centerville, TX. John was preceded in death by his beloved Dorothy, his parents: John William Lutteringer Sr and Adeline Earnestine Riecher, his sister: Adeline Helen Lutteringer/Helmke.
John was a husband, role model, family man, provider, leader, mentor and a friend to many. As a person he was honest, kind, gentle, loving and caring, great with a great sense of humor, great work ethic and was devotion to his family and friends. He had a passion for hunting and fishing that lead to many adventures in south Texas, Indiana, Utah, Colorado, gulf coast as well as the family ranch in Centerville Texas. He was also one of the most aggressive euchre players that God has put on this earth and this has left his family and friends many stories about his play. He volunteered at the Centerville Library and was known around town as the “Tomato Man” for his knack of growing some of the finest tomatoes around Leone County, Texas.
As a father he was a role model, mentor and confidant who was always concerned about and there for his children.
He is missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his children, John and his wife Mickey Pollard, and Paul and his partner Tonya Kinney, as well as his cherished grandchildren Nicole Sutton and her husband Randy, their son Lucas, Kristen Lutteringer, JW Lutteringer and his partner Josie Halozan, and PJ Lutteringer and his partner Sierra Reinhard and their children, Apollo and Eden.
