I left Houston 10 years ago or longer. I never got to say bye to lots when I left. My grandfather was a true idol and hero to lots. I miss him very much. This year has been horrible. I lost both grandfathers probably a month apart. They both had taught me many things. I send my love to my family and prayers to all. We had lost a very loved man to many. Grandpa and family
I love you. Until me see each other again you and your brothers enjoy each other. Until we meet again. I love you Gramps!

The first time I met Uncle Dwight I knew he was someone special! I was a little nervous being new to the family. He put me at ease right away. We spent the evening sharing stories. He shared family genealogy about his family which he was passionate about. I really enjoyed getting to know Aunt Celie and Uncle Dwight. I hoped we'd somehow be together some day again soon. Tim and I along with Ryan and Amanda McMahon (Lindie's children) went to visit last year. Dwight was again so gracious and entertaining. He kept us all laughing. We all love him very much and he will be missed. Tim and I are sending our Love and Hugs to the whole family.

Cecilia,
My heart hurts for you and the kids.
I will never forget Dwight coming over to the house after Tropical Storm Claudette and helping save our washer and fridge. We used them for another 15 years. He didn't even jump when a small snake came slithering out of the washer. He was like that, always helping a neighbor, a friend, any one in need.
May your hearts be comforted by the good memories, the fun times that you can laugh about. Know that we have you in our prayers and if I can help in any way, you only need to call me or Alden.

Dwight and I transited the PISD from about fourth grade circa 1952 thru graduation in 1959. I departed Pearland for the University of Texas and never returned (although I did work and live in the Nassau Bay and Seabrook areas for years.) Because of my peregrinations, and high tech itinerant worker career, we only met once again that I remember (maybe twice) and that was at our 50th anniversary of PHS graduation. I remember Dwight as a friend and as a person who contributed more than he took from this world. His was a life well lived. Rest in peace, Dwight.

Dwight Bittick will always be remembered as the one who found the man Mark Belt of Mark Belt, Texas, thereby solving one of the great mysteries of Pearland history. Mark Belt was the original name of the town that was later christened Pear Land by Witold Zychlinski. The question was whether Mark Belt was a man or simply a railroad term, and Dwight's extensive research discovered the man in the Galveston Daily News of March 16, 1887 which noted the registration at the Tremont Hotel of Mark Belt of Mark Belt, Texas. I first met Dwight in 1956 when he was a freshman left fielder for the Pearland Oiler high school baseball team and I was in the third grade and served as the bat boy. Years later, when Dwight and I worked together on writing Pearland history, he was always supportive and encouraging, but the greatest compliment I received from Dwight was when he said I was the best bat boy ever. That meant more to me than anything. I will miss him and I offer my condolences to Cecelia and the rest of his family. He was one of God's better efforts.
