Please share a memory of Sylvia to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sylvia Canales Chapa, 78, passed away Monday, May 4, 2020. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lionel Gonzalez Chapa, and her parents, Horacio Canales and Genoveva Chapa; siblings, Hector Canales and Rosario Dolores Canales; and grandchildren, Garrett, Izaac, and Izrael. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Leonel Chapa and wife, Brenda, Jaime Chapa and wife, Cynthia, Rosario “Quizzie” and husband, Darrell Honeycutt, and Mauro “Beatle” Chapa; sister, Cornelia Mollie Batson, and brother, Horacio Canales Jr.; grandchildren, Leonel, Tina, Misty, Seth, Chelsea, Dewayne, Danielle, Leo, Courtney, Ashley, Izavier, and Izaiah; numerous great grandchildren; and a host of other family members and dear friends. Sylvia was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother who loved and raised her children as well as many others. When a child was in need, she was always there. Sylvia loved cooking her favorite dishes and sharing recipes with her family. She enjoyed the outdoors and camping or riding in hotrods. When she was younger, she was quite the accomplished softball player. Sylvia moved, with her family, to LaPorte in the 1960’s and this is where she called home. She was incredibly involved with the community where she ran the LaPorte movie theater and the Colonial Drive-In. Sylvia opened her home for many summers to the Boys Harbor. She was affectionately known as “Mammo” to many children during her lifetime. Sylvia will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Based on the current health situation, the family requests immediate family and close friends only. A Visitation and Rosary for Sylvia will be held at Clayton Funeral Home, 201 South 3rd Street, LaPorte Texas, 77571 on Thursday, May 7, 2020. The visitation will take place from 6:00 – 8:00 pm with a Rosary recited at 6:00 pm. The funeral service will take place on Friday, May 8, 2020 at 10:00 am in the chapel at Clayton Funeral Home in LaPorte with Deacon Steve Griesmyer officiating. Interment will follow at Grand View Memorial Park in Pasadena, Texas.
