Obituary of Martin Kent Zavala

With deepest sorrow, we announce that our son, Martin Kent Zavala, age 20, tragically lost his life in a car accident in Galveston, Texas on the Causeway Bridge, Sunday, June 14, 2020. Those who knew Kent, even just a little, lost a shining light in their lives. Though only 20 years old, Kent affected many people in his lifetime. Kent will be missed everyday by his Father, Martin Zavala; Mother, Kimberly Epling Zavala; and Sister, Ashleigh Zavala Lippe and husband, Trevor; his loving Grandmother, Shirley Epling Cohn, Great Aunt, Joann Turnbow, Aunt, Jeanna Epling Smith, Uncle, Lindon ‘Scooter’ Smith, Cousins Barbara Turnbow, Julian, Nicky and Natalie Zavala, Colten and Chloe Smith, Lindsay Guerrero, Amber, Savannah and Jolene Turnbow, his best friends Lizzy Burkhart, Mikhaelis Moore and Robert Goudeaux and countless other family and dear friends. Kent was born in Baytown, Texas on February 10, 2000. He graduated from Goose Creek Memorial High School in 2018 and continued to pursue an Instrumentation Technician Certification from Lee College. In 2019, Kent was a Recruit at the Crosby Volunteer Fire Department, as well as a Bullfighter at Hard to Make 8 in Crosby, Texas. Being a Man of God often means being selfless and putting others before yourself. Kent showed his love and devotion for God with his selflessness, by becoming a volunteer Fireman, rebuilding homes and cleaning up after storms with his church and in countless other ways. Kent loved the outdoors and enjoyed, hunting, fishing, and going mudding. He was known as “2 Steppen Kent” amongst all his friends that regularly went Country dancing. He was involved in the Greenlight Performance car and truck club. He loved to work with his hands and was exceptional at drawing and welding. You knew when you were meeting Kent by his big smile, infectious personality and being the epitome of the class clown that loved to tell jokes and play pranks. He will forever be remembered for always doing the right thing, caring for others and being a helping hand. Kent had a special bond with his Mother and Father making sure they were always taken care of. He cherished spending time with his family and friends, Kent will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Services for Kent will be held at Faith Family Church, 6500 N. Main St., Baytown, Texas 77521. The visitation will take place Tuesday, June 23, 2020 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Marvin Rose officiating.
