William “Bill” Pond Chapin III passed away Sunday, June 28, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, William Pond Chapin Jr. and Dorothy Chapin. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 45 years, Donna Chapin; son, Brian William Chapin and wife, Tomomi; daughter, Cheryl Beth Rhea and husband, Christopher; sister, Louise Wilson and husband, Lawrence; grandchildren, Naito, Seiki, and Riku Chapin, Kendall, Brooke, and Everett Rhea; and a host of many other family and dear friends. Bill was a wonderful husband and father who was an excellent provider for his family. He had a servant’s heart and believed strongly in helping others in need. Bill was supportive of our troops and veterans and helped organizations like the Wounded Warriors. He was strong in his faith and truly loved the Lord. Bill was active in his church and helped with Kids Camp, Royal Rangers for boys, and as an usher. He was extremely proud of his Norwegian heritage and enjoyed studying his family history. Bill loved the outdoors and often would comment about the peace that could be achieved by simply listening to the sounds of the ocean, the tranquility of palm trees and tropical flowers, or relaxing in the Smoky Mountain National Park. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing tennis until he had neck surgery. Bill will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
