Obituary of Jim Freeman Jr.

Please share a memory of Jim to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Celebrating the life of James “Jim” Robert Freeman Jr., born in Austin, TX on September 17, 1957. Jim passed away Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at the age of 62. He is preceded in death by mother, Sue Williams Freeman. Left to cherish his memory are his father, James “Bob” Freeman; brother, Joe Freeman and wife, Tina; sister, Janet Freeman; his loving wife of 43 years, Lisa Freeman; daughter, Tina Freeman Curry and husband, Mark; son, David Freeman and wife, Lindsay; grandchildren, Hayden Curry, Riley Curry, Kate Freeman, Brynn Freeman, Tess Freeman; and a host of other family and dear friends. At an early age Jim developed a love of sports that he carried with him throughout his life. During his school years he played baseball and football often with his brother Joe. Jim also had a love of music and even played the violin which lead him to enjoy music of all genres – you could find him listening to anything from musicals to Queen or even country music – his love of music truly had no limits. Even though Jim and Lisa went to rival high schools they met their Sophomore year thanks to their involvement in the Junior Achievement Program. Shortly after graduation, they married on February 18, 1977. Jim took his love of sports and transitioned from playing to coaching shortly after they married. He coached both of his kids along with countless others in multiple sports and left a lasting impression on all he coached. He was an excellent provider for his family working for over 30 years for the US Postal Service as both a letter carrier and supervisor, affectionately called “Freeway” by his many friends and co-workers. Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather that cherished his family deeply. When he wasn’t supporting Tina and David throughout their lives at all their various activities – he continued his passion for sports and could be found playing softball. Later in life his greatest joy was his grandchildren and he was affectionately known as “Grandpa”. No one cheered louder than Jim for his children and grandchildren at all their events. Jim battled with diabetes and heart disease for a number of years but there was never a doubt in how hard he fought. The family would like to thank his countless doctors, nurses, and care givers who worked tirelessly to provide the best care possible. They would especially like to thank Dr. Bahaeddin Shabaneh, Dr. Jose Mayen and his NP Gohnesh Legesse. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jim’s honor to JDRF or the American Heart Association. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him – but we know he now has the best seat in the house to cheer for his family. Services for Jim will be held Monday, September 7, 2020 at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 W. Broadway, Pearland, Texas 77581. The visitation will be held from 10:00 until 11:00 with the funeral service following at 11:00 am with Pastor Lindsay Kirkpatrick officiating.
