Wacey Conaway Stanton August 9, 1935-Janurary 17, 2021 Wacey Stanton, 85, passed away Sunday January 17. He was preceded in death by his parents; Frank C Stanton and Mary Wacey Stanton, and granddaughter; Courtney, uncles and aunts; Reams and Bessie Wacey, and Lloyd and Helen Hennessy. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years Pauline (Polly) Evans Stanton, daughters; Kathie Ryan, Karen Banister and husband Jeff, Kelly Branham and husband Jack, grandchildren; Christi and husband Kevin, Cody and wife Leah, Cirby and husband Ryan, Caysea and husband Mike, Alex, Peyton, Baylee, and Jacob, great grandchildren; Ryker, Reagan, Zoey, Zane, Zaddek, Carter, Maddox, Kallie, and Karsyn, along with a host of other family and friends. Wacey started High School at Brookhaven in Mississippi. At the end of his freshman year, he moved to Natchez High School where he met a cute little red head named Pauline Evans. His family moved again, and he finished High School in New Iberia Louisiana. Even though he had moved from Natchez he still maintained a relationship with Polly. After graduation from New Iberia High School, he went to LSU on a football scholarship. While at LSU he enlisted in the Army and was stationed in the Philippines as part of the Army Security Agency, doing top secret work. After being discharged from the Army, Wacey finished his degree at Louisiana College, where he attended on a football scholarship and taught a mathematics class his Senior year. He graduated with a degree in mathematics and physics. In 1954 he married his High School sweetheart Polly and began a family. They were blessed with three daughters who gave them eight grand-children and nine great-grandchildren. After graduation from Louisiana College, he began his career with Boeing in Wichita Kansas. After a year, moved to New Orleans to be closer to family where he spent six years. Philco Ford gave him the opportunity to move to the Houston area and work near the Johnson Space Center. Philco Ford went through many changes but Wacey stayed constant in his role with the company. He retired from Lockheed Martin in 1998. He was an avid sportsman and competitor, enjoying all sports. He was even the Louisiana State Ping Pong Champion at one point. Wacey became interested in Girl’s Softball through his oldest daughter. He served as coach, umpire, commissioner for thirty- one years. Anyone that knew Wacey knew he was the ultimate family man. His pride and love for his family only grew as the years passed. He lived with an undiagnosed disease that mimicked Lou Gehrig’s disease, which finally confined him to a wheelchair. In November he was diagnosed with Laryngeal Cancer and was in the hospital for the last month. Wacey had a thankful heart and loved God. He was known to say on a regular basis that “he loved his life and wouldn’t change a thing about it, ailments and all” He lived a wonderful life! He will be missed by all who knew and loved him! A Private Family Service for Wacey will be Wednesday January 20th at the First United Methodist Church, 9601 W. Fairmont Parkway LaPorte, TX 77581. A Memorial Service will be planned at a future date due to the current COVID pandemic.
