Obituary of Leonard Fritz Meinke

Leonard Fritz Meinke, 92, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Elsa Meinke; brothers, Victor Meinke, Bob Meinke, Gilbert Meinke; sisters, Elvira Schwab, Velma Buss, Hertha Meinke, Inez Meyer, Glenna Plew. Left to cherish Leonard’s memory are his son, Richard Meinke and wife, Debbie; daughter, Mickey Schwab and husband, Kenny; grandchildren, Robert Meinke and wife, Emily, Katherine Meinke, Chris Meinke and wife, Addie; great grandchildren, Ella, Hunter, and a host of other dear family and friends. Leonard was born and raised in Yoakum, Texas, and was a proud alumnus of Yoakum High School. After high school he served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a Sergeant in Colorado and Newfoundland. Following his years of service, he went to work for Marek Brothers Company, retiring after 44 years with the company. Outside of work, Leonard was a devoted and loving father. He was a skilled and creative woodworker and would often say “I’m still here because God doesn’t need a carpenter yet”. Leonard enjoyed fishing and time at his bay house on Bolivar peninsula. Leonard will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that monetary donations be made to Yoakum High School for school supplies for underprivileged children. Services for Leonard will be held on Monday, March 1, 2021, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 9:00 - 10:00 am. The funeral service will follow at 10:00 am. Interment will be at Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum, Texas.
