Obituary of Michael Fondren
Please share a memory of Michael to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Michael Fondren, native Texan through and through, was unexpectedly taken to be with the Lord May 1, 2021 at the age of 60.
Mike was born December 13, 1960 to ‘Blackie” and Sallye Fondren in Houston, TX and grew up in Pearland, Texas. From a very young age it was clear that Mike had a mind of his own and there wasn’t a single thing he couldn’t do! He was a letterman Roustabout in peewee sports and developed a love for bicycles and livestock early on, racing BMX and raising prize birds for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. When he discovered motorcycles, it was a whole new ball game: The first one he got was taken apart entirely within hours so he could see and understand the way it worked before ever taking it for a ride. This would eventually lead him to owning his own shop and his career racing motorcycles but not before his years of antics with his buddies at Safeway Grocery.
He met Roberta Briand and moved to Alvin where they welcomed his 25th birthday present, daughter Christina and, seven years later, his daughter Emily. During these years he became a gymnast, a ‘Pretty Pretty Princess’ champion, and all the other countless titles he could to be the best daddy to 2 daughters-because Mike didn’t do anything halfway. Mike was widowed in 2000 when Roberta unexpectedly passed away.
Shortly after, Mike and Kelly came together after having been friends and motocross buddies for a long time. Two more opposite people did not exist anywhere, but two people better suited for each other didn’t either. They were married February 28, 2009 after many years together. Kelly’s son, Dylan, had very quickly become Mike’s son as well and he treasured having a boy who loved so many of the same things. He enjoyed spending time fixing bikes, teaching him how to build things and just watching him become the son he never knew he would gain. During this time, Mike was flourishing in the field of dentistry while working countless hours with his cattle. There really wasn’t anything he couldn’t do - he was the ultimate handyman, management (of anything) extraordinaire, business professional, good ‘ole cowboy, motorcycle riding, junk collecting…the list goes on and on, but it was time to add Grandpa to the list. Mike welcomed 6 beautiful grandchildren over the next couple years that adored him. Noah Elizabeth, Elisha Grace, Jude Michael (his namesake who he called JM), James Noelle, Benjamin Adam and Asher Eden all knew they had a grandpa of many talents. He had so many people that loved him because of how much he helped and loved everyone around him. He worked hard alongside Kelly as complete partners navigating life’s adventures. They were a perfect team, and this loss will truly leave a hole in everyone’s life that knew him. Knowing that he was a man of faith and knew the Lord gives his family peace that he is waiting at the gates for their arrival.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar “Blackie” & Sallye Fondren. He leaves on earth his loving wife, Kelly Fondren, his children, daughter Christina Fondren-Williams son in law Ryan Williams, daughter Emily Fondren, and son Dylan Cox. His brother Matt Fondren. Grandchildren, Noah, Elisha, Jude, James, Benjamin and Asher. Mike mentored many young men in his life and considered them some of his closest friends and greatest accomplishments. Numerous family and friends grieve the loss of this great husband, father and friend.
His funeral will begin on May 8th with a final ride to his cherished ranch and allow him one last ride with his wife, his horse, and his cowboys to Chocolate Bayou Cowboy Church in Alvin, TX where he worshipped and fellowshipped. There will be a visitation and service at 1 pm before he returns to Clayton Funeral Home in Pearland.
Please send all flowers to the Chocolate Bayou Cowboy Church, 6808 County Rd 172, Alvin, TX 77511, beginning at 10:00 am Saturday May 8th.
