Obituary of Betty Ann Morris

Betty Ann Morris (nee Pryor) was born June 27, 1933 in Troy, Alabama, to parents Annie Jewel and Woodrow Pryor. The eldest of three daughters, Betty and her family moved to Harlem, NY, before eventually settling in the Bronx. She married John “Jack” Arthur Morris on October 12, 1957. Together they raised three sons Jon Paul, David Allen, and James Edmund in Jersey City, NJ. Betty and Jack were married for more than 40 years before his passing in 1999. Betty held an Associate Degree in Applied Science from St. Peter’s College in Jersey City, NJ, and worked for many years at Planned Parenthood in Hudson County, NJ, before retiring in the 1990s. Betty was a vivacious, fun-loving personality. An avid gardener, Betty was not above the surreptitious pinching of cuttings from other people’s gardens (or garden centers) that she could later root and use in her own garden. Among her other passions were collecting antiques, playing cards, Sudoku puzzles, and reading. Above all, she loved spending time with friends and family, especially her grandsons, who had this to say about their beloved grandmother: Grandma was everything to me: my hero, my confidant, my caregiver, and my biggest supporter. In short, she is the greatest person I know. – Joseph I loved spending time with Grandma. I specifically remember one summer going to her apartment to do chores for her, but we mainly played cards and Rummikub. She was very fun to be around. I miss her. –David Betty is survived by sons Jon Paul and James; daughters-in-law Genene and Tatyana; grandsons Joseph John Arthur and David Alan; sisters Mittie Jean Morris and Jerryetta Hayes; brother-in-law David R. Morris; nephews Darryl Morris and David R. Morris, Jr; and nieces Angela Huggins, Caroline Morris, Joey Johnson, Paula Morris, and Pamela Allen. She was predeceased by her parents Annie and Woodrow; husband Jack; and son David Allen. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people and he will dwell with them. They will be his people and God himself will be with them and be their God. ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes.
