My condolences to Mark's family for their tremendous loss. I worked with Mark at BP and had great respect for him. He was a great team player and was consistently kind, supportive and quick to compliment and encourage others. I remember the first time I shook Mark's hand, my hand disappeared in his giant mitt and I instantly had a flashback to age 11 when I shook the enormous hand of my sports idol Hank Aaron.
Mark was a fine landman, a great co-worker and an even better person. I am fortunate to have known him.

I met Mark at West Texas State University in 1975. We were both freshmen and in the same MWF 8am Speech 101 Class. Why do I remember those details? Because Mark was impossible to forget. He filled up any room he entered with the warmth of his personality, his physical size, his charm, his quick mind and his humility. It took Facebook to renew our friendship decades later and there I came to appreciate another one of his fine characteristics, his respect for others. We differed on various topics from time to time but always agreed that invitation for a cup of coffee and a good conversation would never be withdrawn just because we didn't see eye to eye on all things. Mark built an incredible life with Cindy and when I saw their family photos it made me so pleased for them both. While I will miss his posts and the chance for that cup of coffee, I am grateful for our friendship. Rest in Peace Mark. May God's perpetual light shine upon you.

When I heard of Mark's passing, I immediately recalled a few things about him. First was "The king’s heart is like channels of water in the hand of the Lord; He turns it wherever He pleases." (Proverbs 21:1) Mark quoted this scripture a number of times as he taught Sunday School and my thoughts turned to the sovereignty of God in all circumstances. My second reflection of Mark was that of encourager. Everything I heard him speak and the social media posts I read were words of encouragement. Mark was nothing if not genuine, and even when he had doubts or concerns or worries he always spoke of trust in the Lord's plan and encouragement and hope for the future and he wanted you to be lifted up as well. Lastly, Mark was greatly concerned for people. I heard a lot of stories and observed myself how he stepped into the gap to fill needs, even those that were unspoken yet seen. He always asked how you were and made it clear that if you didn't have a personal relationship with Jesus, he was there to talk with you and help you begin that journey.
Mark leaves behind a legacy that will endure and my family's prayers are with the Stewart family as you grieve. But be encouraged because "He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty." (Psalm 91), and Mark is most certainly at peace and at rest with our Lord. Have a good day. Because what is a good day if it's not a Godly day.

Sincere condolences to the family. Met Mark around 1974 in Sweetwater, he was a big, strong football standout for the Mustangs. He had to intimidate opponents, but he was a gentle giant, who seemed to treat everyone well. Such a likeable, good man.

I haven’t known Mark but for a few years but it didn’t take long to see Mark was one of the best. Mark first approached me on my first day at Guidon and presented me with a gift for my oldest son who had just been born. It was a sterling rattle with his name engraved on the rattle. It was such a thoughtful gift from someone I didn’t even know at the time. We were friends ever since that first day. Mark’s faith was evident in everything that he did, and in that same spirit I celebrate Mark’s homecoming in heaven. I will miss him and always remember him. He’s had a significant impact on me as I watched him interact with everyone he came into contact with through the last few years. He’s a constant reminder of how to treat others. Mark was such a great man and will be missed. My prayers and condolences go out to his family and loved ones.

I met Mark about 4 years ago. He was a thoughtful man with a powerful voice. I would often find myself coming to work at odd hours and Mark would be there, just the 2 of us, and while I never meant to distract him, he would offer fellowship and spiritual advice to me. He was a dedicated man, always searching for those answers to make the puzzle pieces fit together. I would find myself talking about him with my family, an example of what loyalty and hard work looked like. I last spoke to Mark about a month ago, he would often debate the merits of legal ease, and I could see his logic and reason. I will miss those chats, and I pray for his family. Jesus has you my friend and we will meet again.

We only knew Mark a couple of years but that was enough to know how much he loved the Lord and loved his family. We will greatly miss him! He was a blessing to our church family and to us! Our hearts hurt for his wonderful family. May God comfort them and bless them with many wonderful memories.
Love, Tim & Debra Morris

During our lunches/breakfasts together over the past 3 years, it was obvious that Mark was excited about life and had so many ideas and aspirations about projects he wanted to pursue, but he was interested in my life as well as he would ask many questions about me. He always had a way of complimenting others and making others feel special. His drive and initiative, even at age 64, was very admirable to me, as well as his interest in spiritual matters. We grew up 2 blocks from each other. In Elementary School, he was by far, the biggest guy, but he never picked on anyone. He was always very kind and respectful to all. In Junior High School, he stood out in football, but was never arrogant toward anyone. In High School, his popularity increased, but he was always a friend to those who struggled having friends. I admired him very much and am very proud to call him my friend.

My Bubba-in -law has always been such a big part of my family. Everyone who met him loved and respected him because he was a true soul. What you saw was who he was. He’s the one who gave me the nickname Melrose or Mel. That was always my name. You have left a hole that can only be filled with love and memories. Love you Mark!
