Please share a memory of Jerry to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jerry Richard Mitchell, 89, passed away Sunday, August 1, 2021. He was born on May 7, 1932, to Fred and Retha Mitchell, in San Antonio, Texas. Jerry attended more than a dozen schools while growing up due to his father being an airplane mechanic. He moved to Pearland, Texas in 1948, and had finally found home for the next 70 years. Jerry and his wife, Carrie moved 3 years ago to Friendswood to be closer to his son’s family.
As a child Jerry loved building Balsa wood planes with his mother. He soloed his first plane at the age of 16. Jerry was honored to serve his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years during the Korean Conflict. Following the service, Jerry became a corporate pilot where he flew for 25 years. Jerry also owned his own construction company up until his retirement.
Jerry was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He cherished time spent with his family and especially his granddaughters. Jerry never knew a stranger and he always kept his friends and family laughing. Jerry was a man who loved the Lord. He was a Christian and a faithful member of First United Methodist Church Pearland, where he and his wife attended. Jerry was also a Mason. His hobbies included watching auto racing and racing stock cars on dirt tracks around Houston. Jerry also enjoyed fishing, reading, and working crossword puzzles. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to cherish Jerry’s memory are his loving wife, of 61 years, Carrie Ann Mitchell; son Keith Mitchell and wife, Amy; brother Mike Mitchell and wife, Sandy; brother-in-law Carl Jeffries and sister-in-law Margaret Triplett; grandchildren Maura and Ellie Mitchell, and a host of other dear family and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Retha Mitchell; and granddaughter Maddie Claire Mitchell.
