Obituary of Rita Cecelia Lowe

Please share a memory of Rita to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Rita Lowe, 95, passed away Friday, August 6. She is preceded in death by her husband, Merril Lowe, and sister, Anabelle Gordon. Left to cherish her memory are her sons; Jerry Lowe and wife Fran, Bob Lowe and wife Kendall, Doug Lowe and wife Carolyn, and Larry Lowe and wife Sandy; grandchildren, Robin, Alan, Anthony, Rebecca, Isaak, Cheryl, Kevin, Megan, and Rhoda; great-grandchildren, Jack, Arthur, Harvey, Nora Kate, Margaret, Claire, Reid, and Cade, and a host of other family and friends. After high school, Rita worked for the Army during World War II as a civilian. When the war was over, she met the love of her life, Army Air Corp veteran Merril Lowe. She was Merril’s partner while he completed a degree in Aerospace Engineering and then for adventures around the country pursuing his career in the aerospace industry and raising their sons together. They finally settled down in La Porte, Texas in 1964 in support of Merril’s career with NASA. When their sons were grown, Rita worked for La Porte ISD; she loved working with children and helping them as students. Rita’s greatest joy was her family. She was a shining example of motherhood, guiding her boys to be kind and thoughtful men. When she was blessed nine times with grandchildren and eight times with great-grandchildren, she was over the moon every time. She cheered them on in sports, attended their performances, crossed the country for graduations. No distance was too far, no schedule too hectic for her to support and care for her family. She believed in the importance of being both a good parent and a good partner, and she once said, “Children grow up; don’t let spouses grow apart.” Meaningful advice from a lady who celebrated 58 years of marriage while managing a career, raising boys, and doting on grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Rita will be missed by all who knew and loved her. Services for Rita will be Friday. August 13th in the Clayton Funeral Home Chapel, 201 S 3rd. St. La Porte. Visitation at 10:00 am and Service at 11:00 am (masks requested). Interment following at Houston National Cemetery in Houston. Rita loved animals, and in lieu of flowers the family would appreciate a donation to the animal rescue charity of your choice.
