Obituary of Betsy Gay Lowe

Please share a memory of Betsy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Betsy Gay Lowe, 63, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2021. She is preceded in death by her father John Ross Lowe Sr, mother Virginia Brazil Lowe; brothers Dallas Craig Lowe, Forrest Miles Lowe, John Ross Lowe Jr; and sister Sallie Ruth Boles. Left to cherish her memory are her son John Lowe; sister Martha Starkey; grandchildren Cheyenne, Angel, Madison; great granddaughter Enid, and a host of other dear family and friends. Betsy was born in Gary, Indiana on September 13, 1957 to John and Virginia Lowe along with her fraternal twin, Forrest. Two days later, Forrest died of pneumonia. Betsy spent the first six weeks of her life in an incubator. Although she was born with a heart murmur which caused a lifelong weakness and shortness of breath, Betsy was an angelic baby and child. She was raised the youngest of five siblings. Betsy grew into a beautiful, sweet, gentle, loving young lady. She left high school in the 12th grade, but she went back later for her GED. In 1976, at nineteen, she married Frankie Wise. In 1979 their only child, a son, was born. He was named Forrest after Betsy’s twin and he also spent his first weeks in an incubator. Although Betsy and Frankie loved each other until their deaths, they divorced in 1983. As a young single mother, Betsy was a hardworking, responsible parent who was dedicated to her son. Later when grandchildren came, she was just as dedicated to caring for them as well. Betsy had a career in banking and then apartment management early on and later in accounting. She worked for Reliant Energy and Vitol, where she retired from less than two months before her passing. In 1994, Betsy married Rick Johnson. They spent 17 years together before divorcing. Betsy bought a home in Pearland, where she made a new life for herself, and cared for her mother until her death in 2016. Betsy downsized to a smaller home in La Porte shortly before her death. Throughout her life Betsy enjoyed quiet pursuits. She loved reading, movies, and eating dinners out, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Betsy will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
