Billy “Bill” Bural Aven, 81, passed away on December 10, 2010. He is preceded in death by his parents Bural and Bonnie Aven; and brother Lester Aven. Bill is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Jodeen Aven; sons, Terry Aven and his wife Gail, Lynn Aven and his wife Terry; daughters, Karen Gibson and her husband David, Kim Taylor and her husband Randy; sister, Wilma Tidd; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and a host of many other family and friends. Bill always enjoyed spending time with his family who all affectionately called him “Poppy”. He was always there lending a helping hand to anyone. He served as an Elder at the Church of Christ for more than 40 years. Bill had a servant’s heart who never judge others but lived his life serving others. He was a wonderful example to everyone who knew him. During his retirement party after working 37 years with Trans-Continental Pipeline one of his co-workers said “Everyone knew Bill’s family came first, his church came second and his work came in third and that’s how he lived his life.” He was a great example to everyone who knew him. Bill and Jodeen enjoyed traveling over the years with Bill’s work and also enjoyed numerous cruises. He will forever be remembered as an honorable man who never met a stranger. Bill will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A Memorial Service will be held at Southeast Church of Christ, 2400 W. Bay Area Blvd., Friendswood, TX 77546 on Saturday, December 18, 2010 at 10 a.m. with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s honor to the John David Burke Scholarship at Arms of Hope, 21300 State Highway 16 North, Medina, TX 78055.
