Dear Hanzon Family,
You have been in our thoughts and in our prayers a thousand times this past week as we join our broken hearts with yours. We were so, so blessed to have served in Ashlyn's (and Hailee's) BYU ward during her freshmen year, and you need to know that we absolutely could not put Ashlyn up on any higher pedestal! She is simply extraordinary! She is elite! She is one in a million! I (Deon) was the luckiest soul on earth to have been Ashlyn's relief society advisor which meant that I was the luckiest soul on earth to hear her stunningly wise relief society lessons, to pray with her, to play with her, to have her and the other girls to our home, and to merely bask in her sunshine--that sunshine which, quite frankly, just shot straight out of her hair, her eyes, her fingertips! P.S. Yesterday, in honor of Ashlyn, I (Deon, again) wore (and for the millionth time, it seems) the t-shirt Ashlyn designed for the girls in Taylor Hall. I'll never forget when Ashlyn said at the end of one of our relief society classes something akin to, "Deon, we have something for you!" And then, she presented me with one of those Taylor Hall t-shirts, and I thought my heart was going to explode with love. I'm in tears even now, just typing this out. These were "my girls." I was so honored to be counted among them. A true privilege like none other. (I'm attaching a couple of photos.)

I didn’t get to know Ashlyn for a long period of time. But I met her senior year through my daughter Meagan. Her and Meagan became good friends during class and then she took Meagan‘s senior pictures. I was with the girls all day while she snapped picture after picture. So patient and so giving of her time and you could tell she loved every minute of it. The pictures turned out beautiful. We got to talk about her future school plans, going to Utah and everything going on at that minute. She was such a blessing to us. I am so sorry for your loss, words can’t even express.
