Obituary of John Ellis Rosser

John Ellis Rosser Jr., aged 89, died peacefully in his sleep on November 1, 2021. A resident of Stone Harbor, NJ, since 1997, he and his wife, Ruth, recently returned to the Houston area. Mr. Rosser was born on November 11, 1931, to John Ellis Rosser and Florence May Hughes Rosser. A proud resident of Philadelphia, Mr. Rosser is an alumnus of Drexel University, Class of 1953. John and Ruth married in 1953 and were happily married for 68 years. John was commissioned as an officer in the Army Corps of Engineers. Following his Army service, John worked as an engineer in the manufacturing and oil and gas industries, working for brands like Nabisco, and Sun Oil. Following a long and successful career, John retired in Houston in 1997, as Vice President - Refining Operations Far East for Amoco (now British Petroleum). Living in Houston, John was a lively member of the University Baptist Church music program. He spent his retirement in Stone Harbor, NJ, where he frequently lost himself sailing the back bays and serenading the family on the piano before dinners at the family’s home there.
He is preceded in death by his parents John Ellis Rosser and Florence May Hughes Rosser; and a granddaughter, Stephanie Rossetti. He is survived by his wife, Ruth Friedeman Rosser; children: John Ellis Rosser III; Bonnie Rossetti (Gary); Peter Rosser (Karyn); Alice Crottie (Edward); eight grandchildren and two step grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Kingwood on Monday, November 8, 2021, at 2:00 PM, and per his wishes, Mr. Rosser will be buried in Philadelphia, PA, at Philadelphia Memorial Park. A graveside service is planned for November 13, 2021, at 10:30 AM.
