Obituary of Robert Lee Barrow

Please share a memory of Robert to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Robert Lee Barrow Jr went home to be with Jesus on Saturday, December 4th, 2021. He is preceded in death by his parents Robert L. Barrow Sr and Sara Barrow, and sister, Verna Brown. Left to cherish Robert’s memory are his loving wife of 51 years, Lois Barrow; daughters, Andra Barrow and Sonya Myers (Jeff); brother, Lee Barrow (Mary Ann); grandsons, Jeffrey Lee Myers and Kyle Thomas Myers; and a host of many other dear family and friends. Robert was born March 11, 1946, in Beaumont, Texas. He graduated from Dickinson High School as part of the class of 1965. Robert went on to serve the country he loved in the United States Army. While on active duty from 1965 to 1968 he achieved the rank of SP4 as a communications specialist. Following his years of service Robert met the love of his life, Lois Winkelman. On May 8, 1970, they were married in Houston, Texas. Lois blessed Robert with two daughters, whom he loved with all his heart. In 1974 Robert earned an associate degree from the University of Houston through the Pipefitters Local 211 Union’s apprentice program. For the next 41 years he worked as a journeyman pipefitter at NASA. Over the years he gained a love and respect for the many men and women he worked for, and with before retiring in 2014. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. While he didn’t take life too seriously you could always count on him when it mattered. He was a true gentleman through and through. Although he didn’t let many people know, he was also a romantic at heart who enjoyed watching Hallmark movies. Robert was handy by anyone’s definition. He could repair or build absolutely anything you might imagine. Working with his hands brought Robert a great deal of satisfaction, especially when he was woodworking. His favorite pastimes included fishing, quail hunting in Oklahoma with family, and being anywhere in the great outdoors. Robert was an avid fan of the Houston Astros as well, and always enjoyed a good football game. You could count on Robert to never miss a sporting event featuring his favorite athletes; his two grandsons. Whether they were playing baseball, water polo, swimming, marching in the band, or playing in a concert, you would find Robert cheering them on. Robert attended the Believers Fellowship church in Alvin, Texas. He always looked forward to meeting up with the Men’s group from church. Robert was a born-again, spirit-filled Christian who loved the Lord, and never lost his faith. Robert will be remembered as a kind and gentle man who always had a warm smile and a generous heart. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Robert loved and was loved; he is finally home with the Lord!
