Roscoe Henry Jones peacefully passed away December 30, 2010 at the age of 85. He was born to Henry and Zella Jones on December 25, 1925 in Vinita, Oklahoma. Roscoe earned a Bachelor Degree in Civil Engineering from Oklahoma A&M College (now known as Oklahoma State University) and a masters degree in City Planning from Harvard Graduate School of Urban Design. Roscoe served during the Korean conflict as Lieutenant Commander in the Corps of Engineers from October 20, 1951 to October 21, 1953. Roscoe was the Director of City Planning for the City of Houston from 1964-1983. He previously served as Director of Planning in Metropolitan Dade County in Miami, Florida; Director of Planning and Traffic Engineer in Springfield, Missouri; Director of Planning and Engineering for Ottumwa, Iowa; and he worked as Planner for Tulsa, OK; Cambridge, MA; and Oklahoma City, OK. He was a member of AIP (American Institute of Planners). Roscoe was an active member & Elder of First Christian Church in Houston. Roscoe and wife Ruth spent many happy times camping in most of the State Parks and National Parks. Roscoe was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Roy and Roger and niece Barbara. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth, son Curtis Jones, daughters Linda Jones-Hill and Cynthia Jones-Labossiere, son-in-law Rick Labossiere, grandchildren Christopher Hill, Katherine Jones, Drew Zella Labossiere and Jack Labossiere and nieces Julie Walker and Betty Bartlett. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, January 2, 2010 at First Christian Church, 1601 Sunset Blvd., Houston, Texas 77005 with Dr. Michael T. Dunn officiating. In lieu of flowers the family encourages donations be made to First Christian Church, or to the Parkinson’s Foundation of Houston, or Country Place Foundation.
