Leida Torres-Gueits, 84, passed away on December 31, 2010. She was a devoted sister, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother that cherished the time she got to spend with her family. Rodriguez and John Figueroa. She is survived by her sons, Fernando Rodriguez and his wife, Milagros, Richard Rodriguez and his wife Evelyn, Ruben Rodriguez, Frank Figueroa and wife Rose; daughters, Mildred Rodriguez and her husband Cruz, Ruth Rentas and her husband Orlando, Doris Hill and her husband Arnold, Carmen Figueroa, and her husband Julio; sisters, Dora Octaviani, and her husband Miguel, Anna Figueroa, and Gloria Serrano and her husband, Alberto; twenty nine grandchildren and thirty great-grandchildren.
Leida loved her family and loved being married to all of her husbands and their families. She was affectionately known to everyone as “Mama Leida”. She was a wonderful cook and all her family, friends and neighbor enjoyed her cooking. Leida enjoyed spending time with her family and gave of herself to anyone in need. She loved country living, and could butcher the hogs, chickens and goats on the farm. Leida could just as easily cook for twenty-five as she could for two. She was truly the matriarch of the family; and was the glue of the family and taught everyone to love one another. Leida will always be remembered for teaching the kids how to fish for crawfish by hand, ride bikes, play jacks and shoot marbles. Mama Leida shared her love and knowledge to all of her children and made sure that all of her children had strong faith in the Catholic Church. She took great pride in all of their completion of their first communion. Leida will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved her.
Visitation for Leida will be held on Monday, January 3, 2011 from 6-8 pm with a Rosary recited at 7 pm by Deacon Bob Leicht at Clayton Funeral Home.
