Obituary of San Juanita "Janie" Lopez

San Juanita (Janie) Lopez, 67, of La Porte, Texas left this world to be with her Heavenly Father, husband, and parents on July 1, 2022. She was surrounded by her loving family.

Janie was born to Godfrey and Cleotilde Vela on December 16, 1954, in Falfurrias, Texas. She married Rodolfo Jesus Lopez in 1973 and remained married until his death in November of 2020. Janie had a career as a childcare provider for over 40 years. She helped teach, guide, nurture, love, and protect generations of children who grew up to be strong men and women in the local community of La Porte and beyond. Her love, gentleness, and tireless devotion toward every child who came into her care became her legacy. Janie also loved her own family dearly and in her spare time she enjoyed botanical nurturing. Janie truly had a big heart and cherished her family, extended family, and friends alike. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Janie is survived by her four loving children Rodolfo Mateo Lopez, Irene Lopez, Sylvia Lopez and Jesse Ray Lopez; Siblings Glondina Cuevas, Raudel Vela (Linda), Norina Donias, Ludivina Bernal (Rudy), Cricelia Sanchez, Cleotilde Gonzalez (George), and twin brother Juan Vela (Norma); ten grandchildren; three great grandchildren, and a host of many more relatives, family and friends.

Services for Janie will be held on Thursday, July 7, 2022, at Clayton Funeral Home, 201 S. 3^rd Street, La Porte, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, with Deacon Richard Reyes officiating.
