Obituary of Kathleen "Kathy" Strader
Kathleen (Kathy) Carroll Strader, 79, passed away peacefully Friday, September 16, 2022, in Cary, North Carolina.
Born in Rawlins, Wyoming on February 26, 1943, she lived most of her young life in various states. She graduated from W.B. Ray High School in Corpus Christi, TX in 1960. In 1975, La Porte, Texas became her home, and she worked in the savings and loan and mortgage loan industries, including at Bayshore Savings and as a mortgage loan underwriter in Houston.
Kathy loved her family and her Catholic faith. She was an active member in the church of her local parish, St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in La Porte, participating as a member of the Altar Society, an extraordinary minister of holy communion, in the Samaritans, the Seafarers Christmas Shoebox Program, as well as her contributions to many committees including bingo. Kathy was also a member of the Archdiocesan Council of Catholic Women (ACCW) and served for a period as Secretary for her local chapter. She was known for her tenacity and was also first to volunteer to drive someone who needed a ride to the doctor or a church meeting. A longtime resident of Bay Pointe Townhomes, she served on its HOA. Kathy also served as Secretary of La Porte Baseball in the 1980s.
Kathy is preceded in death by her parents J. Leo and Lois Cain; sister, Rosemary Montgomery; and brother, Jim Cain. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Strader; her son and daughter-in-law, Randy and Tessa Strader; her grandchildren Dylan Strader, Brenda Strader, Nery Strader, Lucas Strader, and Owen Strader; her great grandchild, Allison Grace Strader Weeks, and cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A visitation service will be held for Kathy on Friday, September 26, 2022, from 9:00 – 10:00 am, a rosary service from 10:00 - 10:30 am, and a funeral mass at 11:00 am at St. Mary’s Church, 816 Park St., La Porte, TX 77571. An internment at La Porte Cemetery on 8th St. will follow immediately after mass.
