Obituary of Calanne Dee Choate

Calanne Dee Choate, 78, passed away Friday, January 6, 2023. She is preceded in death by her father Charles Joseph Koenig Jr.; mother Alberta Smith Koenig; and brother Alfred Cushing Koenig. Left to cherish Calanne’s memory are her loving husband, of 50 years, John Roland Choate; son Roland Choate and wife, Kathy; brother Charles Joseph Koenig III and wife, Linda; sister-in-law Julie Koenig-Evans; grandchildren Charles Joseph Choate, Avery Alexandra Choate, Mary Elizabeth Choate, and a host of many other dear family and friends.

Calanne was strong in her faith and loved her family beyond measure. She was happily married to her husband, John, for 50 years and was an educator for more than 50 years. Calanne was a graduate of the University of Texas and a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. She spoke Spanish, French, English and Latin and could teach all of them as well. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and adored her dogs. Her family and her career were her life.

Throughout her life, Calanne loved spending time at the beach and enjoyed camping. She was a Den Mother in Pack 680 when Roland was a Cub Scout. The Miami Killian JROTC drill team enjoyed her company on many drill meet trips. Calanne was active in the CCE program at St Helen’s Catholic Church and was a Eucharistic Minister at a local hospital. She was also a lifelong fan of Snoopy and the Peanuts comics. Calanne will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Services for Calanne will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2023, at St. Helen’s Catholic Church, in Pearland, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 9:30 – 10:00 am. The funeral mass will follow at 10:00 am with Father Jim Courville officiating. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Forgotten Angels Foundation in Pearland.
