Obituary of Arlene Dorothy Berges

On Saturday, January 14, 2023, our precious mother Arlene Dunham Berges (“Mimi” to family and friends), passed away from a short illness at the age of 88. She was a native of LaPorte, Texas, born to Joe & Thekla Dunham, on March 27, 1934, along with her twin brother, Arlen, on 2^nd Street. Her lifetime hometown, La Porte, is where she grew up, attended school, and raised her large family.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Herman H. Berges, son, Jamie D. Smith, parents, Joe & Thekla Dunham, four brothers, Norman Dunham, Herbert Dunham, Dennis Dunham, Vernon McKenzie, and sisters, Elois Freeman, and Jeanne Baker.

Arlene is survived by her twin brother, Arlen R. Dunham, and her children, Stephen M. Smith, (Jamie) & Terry Ellen Smith, Robyn & Robert Fox, Terri Anne Dorsey, Amy & Jay Prigmore, Melanie & Ira Ferguson, David & Karen Berges, Tim & Nancy Berges, Steve & Nancy Berges, including many nieces, nephews, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she was loved by all. She was a true disciple of Christ throughout her life. She will always be admired for her service to everyone she met.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4202 Yellowstone Dr., Pasadena, Texas 77504. Visitation will begin at 9:30am, followed by the funeral service at 11:00am. Burial and dedication will take place at the La Porte Cemetery.
