Obituary of Cora Lee Thompson
Cora Lee Thompson was born on December 7, 1943 in Opelousas, Louisiana to the late Alfred and Herlena Thibodeaux. Her late grandmother, Alma Turner and late aunt Leona Turner helped to raise her. Cora peacefully entered rest on Saturday, February 4, 2023. Cora dedicated her life to God at an early age and remained strong in her faith. She was an avid member in her Church’s choir and enjoyed singing in the choir. Cora attended Holy Ghost Catholic School and graduated from J.S. Clark High School in Opelousas, Louisiana.
Cora was secularly employed over 40 years in the medical field. She worked as a Medical Assistant and Office Manager in a busy Primary Care Physician office. Cora was a very hard worker and she was very dedicated to her job. She truly loved taking care of others.
Cora was married to the love of her life Joe L. Thompson for 60 wonderful years. Their life together was a love story that will always be cherished by her dear husband Joe and those they shared it with. Joe affectionately called her “Sweetheart” and "honey" and several other kind, endearing sweet names. Cora and Joe loved traveling together and spending time with family. Although Cora was raised as an only child, Joe’s brothers and sisters quickly became Cora’s brothers and sisters and they mutually loved each other.
Cora was very kind, compassionate, loving, and soft spoken. One of her greatest strengths was her enormous generosity and her willingness to help anyone. She was extremely thoughtful, and she always put others before herself. Cora genuinely loved people and was committed to family and friends.
Cora enjoyed sewing, making crafts, and reading in her spare time. She truly enjoyed serving others and hosting family and friends in their home. We will fondly remember her sense of humor, warm personality, and the love she had for people. Cora will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Cora is preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Herlena Thibodeaux; two sons Joseph James Thompson and Michael Thompson and her sister-in-law Lula Mae Thompson. Cora leaves to cherish her memories her devoted loving husband, Joe L. Thompson; two daughters Priscilla Bob and Melanie Thompson; brothers-in-law Daniel Leo Thompson (Shirley), Leo Paul Thompson (Coretta), Michael Thompson (Tina), Blake Authorlee (Gail), Bobby Authorlee (Sharon); sisters-in-law Bernadine Stone and Maedella Brown; fourteen grandchildren; her beloved niece and nephew Juanita and Michael Payne, and a host of many other nieces, nephews, family and friends, and not to forget her sweet dog Jim.
