Allen was born in Sonora, Texas on July 23, 1940.  He had a great many stories of the challenges he faced growing up.  He took those hard times and created his own vision of being a big fish in a little pond.  He was very proud of his roots out in west Texas.  He was an All Star Sonora Bronco, playing both football and running track.  After his tour in the Korean War, he met and married Jewell Ann Payton and started his family in Dallas, Texas.  Allen’s first big job was with Fina Oil company.  The next adventure led him to being a butcher, a bartender, then he settled into Angelo State completing a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  He always found a way to make ends meet.  Coaching and teaching shop were his absolute dream jobs where he was able to influence many young athletes.

He was the Dad who took great time and pleasure playing sports/games with his own children as well as the neighborhood kids and watching them having fun brought him great joy.  Allen loved being the all-time-quarterback, motivator and cheerleader in football, basketball, bike riding, boxing, weight lifting and golf.  He was driven and expected the same drive from his kids, team members and students.  He shared this same love and passion with his grandchildren.  If he couldn’t recall your name he’d call you Bubba and he truly believed he was a Pool Shark.  Golf evolved as his favorite game where he made lifelong friendships.  He always said to stay positive and make the best out of everyday.

In lieu of flowers, please take someone out to play a round of golf, throw a football or challenge someone to a game of horse.
