Jessie M. Baker, 76, was born June 3, 1946, in Crockett, Texas and passed away Saturday, March 25, 2023, in Houston, Texas. She is preceded in death by her parents Daniel and Katherine Baker, loving husband Billy Gibson, one brother, and one sister. Left to cherish her memory are her five children, three siblings, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and a host of many other family and friends.

Jessie grew up in LaPorte, Texas, accepted Christ as her Savior at a young age, and was the first African American student to graduate from LaPorte High School. She proudly served her country in the United States Air Force. Jessie had a successful career as a nurse for 50 years. She worked in the emergency room and neonatal intensive care unit, among other departments. Jessie fostered numerous children with special needs. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, watching westerns and visiting with friends. Jessie will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

A visitation service is scheduled on Thursday, April 6, 2023, from 6:00 – 8:00 pm, at Clayton Funeral Home, 201 S. 3rd Street, in LaPorte, Texas. The funeral service will be held on Friday, April 7, 2023, at 10:00 am, at Greater Love Church, in Houston Texas, with Minister Ramona Barlow officiating. Interment will follow at Jiel-Huntley Cemetery, in Crockett, Texas.
