Obituary of Benjamin Robert Lenamon

Benjamin “Ben” Robert Lenamon was born June 28th, 1937, in Limestone County, Texas, the second son to Travis and Effie (Gill) Lenamon, and passed away Friday, May 5, 2023, in Pearland, Texas.  He graduated from Brazosport High School in Freeport, Texas.  Following graduation, he proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for 4 years.  After serving on the flight line for 3 years, Ben suffered severe hearing loss, and finished his military service working in the communications division.  During his service he was inducted into the Strategic Air Command in Lake Charles, Louisiana. His military service complete, Ben enrolled at Lamar State University where he pursued a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts, transferred to Alvin Community College, and completed his degree at the University of Houston, earning a Bachelor of Science degree.  Ben was hired by Pasadena ISD, where he taught art at Miller Intermediate School.  That summer he enrolled at Sam Houston State University to pursue a master’s degree.  He continued his education after completing his master’s by achieving all the necessary requirements to receive his doctorate in Education. After 7 years at Miller Intermediate, Ben became Assistant Principal at George Thompson Middle School in Pasadena, Texas.  In 1981, he was named principal of Jackson Intermediate School, where he served until his retirement from education in 1991. 

 

Ben truly had a servant’s heart. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Pearland Church of Christ. He was elected to the Pearland ISD school board, serving as President.  He was also elected to the Brazoria Drainage District #4 as a commissioner, serving 2 terms.  An accomplished artist, Ben was named the Centennial Artist for the city of Pearland in 1994 with the original painting hanging prominently at City Hall. He served on the Brazoria County Appraisal Review Board, Brazoria County Grand Jury in 1997. Ben will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

 

Ben is survived by his loving wife, of 42 years, Dr. Susan Smith Lenamon; three children, Leslie Lenamon Lauderdale and husband Paul, Martin Barrett Lenamon and wife Johnna, and Leigh Lenamon Davis and husband Kenneth; grandchildren Christopher Lauderdale (Melisa), Bobbie Warner (Brett), Gene Davis (Gina), Zach Davis (Hannah), Morgan Levi Lenamon (fiancé Mia); eight great grandchildren; niece Dr. Margene Lenamon, and other special family members that Ben was very close to. He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Gene and wife, Margo, niece Lee Ann Lenamon, grandson Benjamin Davis, and granddaughter Jordon Lenamon.

 

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ben’s coordinator, caregiver, and nurse, Tiffany, Stephanie, and Roslyn.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family would like to request that donations be made to Childhood B.I.G. Love Cancer, The Jordon Lenamon Foundation, or Boy Scout Troop 464.  

 

Services for Ben will be held on Wednesday, May 10, 2023, at Clayton Funeral Home, 5530 West Broadway, Pearland, Texas. Visitation is scheduled from 10:00 – 11:00 am. The memorial service will follow at 11:00 am.
