Obituary of Ann Thomas Askins

Please share a memory of Ann to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Ann Thomas Askins, 85, of La Porte, Texas, passed away peacefully at her home on June 26, 2023 following a lengthy illness.  She is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Knox Askins of La Porte.  Also surviving are her six children: Diane Zachry and husband Earl of Clear Lake, Texas; Suzanne Neufeld of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; Sally Askins of La Porte; James Askins and wife Wendy of Granbury, Texas; Paul Askins of Houston, Texas; Clark Askins and wife Shaunna of La Porte.  She is further survived by ten grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.  She was pre-deceased by her parents Robert Lee Thomas and Augusta Shivers Thomas.

Ann was born on February 23, 1938 in Ravenna, Ohio.  She lived briefly in Omaha, Nebraska and Pelham, New York before she and her mother relocated to Houston following the death of her father in World War II.   She was a 1955 graduate of Lamar High School and studied at Trinity University and the University of Houston.   She and Knox were married in September of 1958 and moved to La Porte in 1962 when he began practicing law.

Ann’s greatest passions in life were being a wife and mother and living her strong Christian faith.  Ann became a born-again Christian in 1978 and daily exhibited the fruits of a relationship with God through her savior Jesus Christ.  She was active in many ministries and hosted missionaries and their children in her home from time to time.

Ann was always graceful and thoughtful of others.  She had a strong since of style for clothes and decorating.  She loved old movies and chocolate, and always ate her dessert first.  She will be missed by many.

The family will receive friends at Clayton Funeral Home in La Porte on Wednesday June 28th from 5 until 7 pm.  Private family graveside services.

In lieu of usual remembrances the family suggests donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Disease Research, or the charity of your choice.
