Obituary of John "Jack" Walter Borns
John “Jack” Walter Borns, 81, passed away on Sunday, September 10th, 2023, in San Diego, California. Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Walter, and Marjorie Scholl Borns; wife, Mary Borns; and siblings, Douglas Borns, Claire Ellsworth, Joseph Borns, Timothy Borns, Theresa Barnes, and Brenda Jenkins. Jack was born the oldest of 10 children in Gary, Indiana in February of 1942. He attended Perdue University until he joined the United States Navy and proudly served his country until retirement. Following his service in the Navy, Jack had a second career as the Plant Manager for Crest Industrial Chemicals until he retired for good.
In his spare time, Jack enjoyed spending time in the great outdoors, camping, canoeing, traveling to air shows, cooking barbecues, or smoking meat. He also enjoyed reading or watching documentaries about the military, tinkering with stuff in need of fixing, and most of all spending time with his family. Jack was a loving man who was always there to listen, guide, or give a hug. He made friends everywhere he went, and there were many bonus kids he considered his own. Nancy Brewer and Diana Hodges McDevitt he called his daughters; and Adrian Alaniz, Brycen Guzman, and Mark Chen he called his grandsons.
