Obituary of Valerie D Chapman

Please share a memory of Valerie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Valerie was a devoted wife, mother, daughter, and sister who never spoke an unkind word to anyone. She loved her family more than anything in this world. Valerie Dawn Chapman, 48 years old, of La Porte, Texas, died after a strong fight against Stage IV Colon Cancer on Friday, September 22, 2023.

She was born in Pasadena, Texas on February 7, 1975, and adopted by Dianne Del Sol and Eddie Hale who loved her beyond measure. As a child, Valerie was full of energy, and you never knew what was going to happen next. She had many daring adventures which always kept her family on their toes. She attended La Porte Independent School District before enrolling at Life Christian Academy where she graduated in 1993. For the last several years, she worked as Assistant Director of Cream of the Crop Learning Center alongside her mom, Dianne Del Sol. She was known by her family that attended the daycare as “Cousin Valerie.”

Valerie met the love of her life, Jay Chapman, in an online Christian dating group. Excited to start their own lives together, the two were married in 2003 and Valerie moved to Dumas, Texas to be with Jay. As quickly as she could, she moved her family back to La Porte, Texas. Valerie and Jay were so excited when their son, Riley Scott Chapman was born in 2010. Riley meant the world to them.

Valerie was an active member of The Church Triumphant and devoted her life to God at a young age. She began working in the ministry with her uncle and aunt, Gary, and Donna Madden while they were pastoring in League City, TX where she was baptized and received the Holy Ghost. She also was part of the music ministry in their church in Crosby, TX. She never wavered in her faith and always lived a life of a devoted Christian.

Valerie loved singing worship music, traveling, taking pictures, scrap booking, drawing, calligraphy, and collecting craft supplies. But the thing she loved the most was spending time with her family.

Her favorite flower was the sunflower. The sunflower represents unwavering faith and constant orientation towards the light which was a true embodiment of Valerie.

Valerie will always be remembered for her sweet spirit. We will miss her every day but will cherish the treasure she left behind, her son, Riley. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all of those who loved her.

Valerie was preceded in death by her husband, Jay Chapman, and her father, Eddie Hale and is survived by her son, Riley; her mother, Dianne Del Sol and stepfather, Lobo Del Sol; her brother Dustin Hale and son Andrew; her brothers, David Hale and wife Amy, Jeffrey Hale, and “honorary” brother, Jason Smith and family; nieces Ashlee Hale and Kaci Hale; nephew Matt Hale; great nieces Aubree Ferrington, Savannah Leonard, Samantha Leonard, Sabreena Leonard; and a multitude of cousins, aunts, and uncles.
