Obituary of Johnny Leonard Earl Downey

Johnny Leonard Downey was born on May 12, 1994, to Donald and Patricia Downey at Palo Pinto General Hospital in Mineral Wells, Texas. Although his birth parents were unable to provide him with a stable environment, he was welcomed with open arms by his true family, Arthur and Maricel Poston. Johnny has been described as someone who tried to put up a strong, protective front when he met others, but he would quickly soften and offer unconditional love.

From an early age, Johnny was full of curiosity and always searching for answers. He would always look for ways to help others; in fact, he dreamed of getting a job that would give him the opportunity to help people. Another of Johnny’s memorable traits was his infectious humor. Johnny loved to tell jokes and make others laugh. In addition, he was inseparable from his brother, Robert Lee Monroe Downey. The two of them greatly enjoyed dressing up as Texas Rangers with cowboy hats, badges and handcuffs. They also loved to watch old Westerns together as they acted as commentators for the shows.

Johnny attended church at Heights Baptist Church. He frequently stated that he loved to go to his church. Additionally, he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and he looked forward to going to Heaven one day. Johnny went home to be with the Lord on Friday, October 20, 2023. He will be deeply missed by many and his outgoing personality and love of life will never be forgotten.
