Obituary of Michael Davis McCollom
Michael Davis McCollom, 74, was born August 31, 1949, in Abilene, Texas to Charles and Anita McCollom, and passed away Saturday, October 28, 2023, in Clear Lake, Texas in the comfort of his wife and son.
Michael was strong in his faith, loved the Lord, and was a faithful member of New Hope Church Friendswood Campus. His faith and courage were extremely inspiring to his family and friends throughout his ten-year battle with cancer. Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1970-1976. He was a very patriotic and proud veteran. He was a wonderful provider for his family. He had a successful career at Exxon Mobil Refinery in Baytown, Texas and retired in 2015 after 43 years of employment.
Michael was happily married to the love of his life, Theresia, for 33 wonderful years. They loved to travel and enjoyed many wonderful vacations alone together as well as sometimes with extended family like their mothers or their nieces. Michael was also a big lover and rescuer of animals. He even adopted his mother-in-law’s older dog “Shorty” as his own, and they still have many of the cats he and Theresia rescued.
Michael was incredible with his hands; from woodworking to mechanical, or electrical, he could repair or build anything. His love for the Lord shined though his actions. He had a selfless soul and a servant’s heart. He would help anyone in need, especially his family and friends. Michael loved to cook, and his stew was always a family favorite. We called it Michael’s Stew but he would always joke and say it should be renamed “slap your momma stew” because it was that good. He had a thirst for knowledge and could often be found watching documentaries or researching on his trusty tablet. Michael was a big sports fan who enjoyed watching college and professional football, and of course he was an Astros fan. Michael will be greatly missed by everyone who knew and loved him.
Preceding Michael in death were his parents; father-in-law O’Daniel James Richards; and sister Patricia Davis. He is survived by his loving wife, Theresia McCollom; son Thad McCollom and wife, Alyssa; brother Kevin McCollom; sister Colleen Simkins and husband, Bennie, and many nieces, nephews and a host of other family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations please be made to New Hope Church or Malcom’s Magic in Michael’s honor.
